Tuesday May 16 - Vaal Tips and Analysis

Race 1

A number of first starters in this one.  HAWKBILL back from six week let-up and hasn't been far away in first two races, don't treat lightly. REAL RELIEF back from let-up and placed at only start at Vaal, don't dismiss. AND ACTION first start and untrialled, has solid claims. EMPORIUM let-up and finished two lengths off the winner at only start at Vaal, could upset.

Race 2

Hard to assess with minimal form to go by. WUGUG has placed in both races run, in with a chance. SILVER HUNT first start and racing without trial, a close top pick. KINGDOM OF GOLD on debut and has not trialled, right in this. ALESIA'S LOVE first start and has the speed to overcome an unfavourable draw, could upset.

Race 3

A number of horses will look to battle it out for the early lead. WE ARE THE LOGANS in the money last start running second at Vaal and should run fitter for past attempts, decent chance. BRENHEISEN in the money at only start running third at Turffontein, among the main chances. DHONI on debut and untrialled, expect to be right up there.  BATTLE OF KURSK finished fifth last start at Turffontein and should run fitter for past attempts, in with a chance.

Race 4

Backmarkers should get their chance in a good speed race. WOODLAND GLADE in the money at only start running second at Turffontein, a winning chance. KEY ELEMENT amongst the placegetters last start running second at Turffontein and should run fitter for past attempts, in with a chance. MY SOUL MATE on debut and untrialled, cannot be ruled out. BE REAL let-up for six weeks and drawn ideally, don't dismiss.

Race 5

Looks to have good pace engaged in this one. GOOD COUNCIL should have the pace in this one to run a true race and settle well. AFRAAD capable of racing on speed and all wins have come when faced with dry ground, a real threat. OUT OF YOUR LEAGUE let-up and looks the leader, among the main chances. CAPTAIN CHORUS back from let-up. Has plenty of early speed and a likely leader, each-way claims.

Race 6

Backmarkers should get their chance in a good speed race. WAR EMPRESS won last start to break maiden at Vaal. Has plenty of early speed and a likely leader, looks threatening. MERCER GIRL back from let-up, well placed.  FEATHER THE NEST has plenty of early speed and a likely leader, in with a chance. WHAT A TIGER has plenty of early speed and a likely leader, still in this.

Race 7

Solid pace expected in this one. GOLIATH HERON back from let-up and proven first-up winning one from seven when fresh, commands respect. READY TO CHARGE won at only start at Vaal and J V'd Merwe a bonus, in with a chance. PINCH HIT has a lot of early speed and all wins have come when faced with dry ground, the real danger in the race. SIBERIAN STEEL let-up and drawn ideally, sneaky chance.

Value Pick: Goliath Heron (1)

Race 8

Anticipating a truly run race so don’t rule out backmarkers, however a very large field so hard to pick this one. IKIGAI has genuine early speed and has placed twice at Vaal before, well placed. WILLOW EXPRESS expect to lead/box seat having drawn the rails, place hope. NORTON SOUND back from long 80 week spell. Proven first-up winning two from two when fresh and won at Fairview last go, a danger in the race. STORMY WINTER let-up and has the speed to overcome a very wide draw, capable of getting into the money.
