Tuesday 25 April - Vaal Racing Preview

Race 1

Looks to have good pace engaged in this one. ARCHIMIDES first-up after 18 week spell and yet to miss the placegetters in two runs, hard to go past. PONTIAC hasn't been far away in first two races, looks threatening. VIVA DE JANEIRO in the money at only start running third at Turffontein, still in this. KING'S EXPRESS first start and untrialled, quinella.

Race 2

Backmarkers should get their chance in a good speed race. SPIRIT PRINCESS capable of racing on speed, has solid claims. MIA FIORE has placed in both races run and in the money last start running third at Vaal when first up, could upset. HAVE A PARTY placed when fresh and ran 33 lengths back from the winner last start at Turffontein, sneaky chance. PARADISE FLOWER has genuine early speed and should run fitter for past attempts, not the worst.

Race 3

A race that should be solid pressure applied in early stages. BROADLANDS should find the lead easily having drawn well, a winning chance. QUEEN BRITANNA has genuine early speed, place chance. SPRING OF ELIXIR back from 23 week spell and beaten easily at only start at Vaal, not the worst. IMPERSONATION back from let-up and has genuine early speed, place claims.

Race 4

Genuine speed engaged in this one. PUERTO PLATA has plenty of early speed and a likely leader, don't treat lightly. QUANTIFIER let-up and looks the leader, each-way claims. SWORD OF MERCY should find the lead easily having drawn well, in with a chance. WONDERWORLD capable of racing on speed, genuine contender.

Race 5

Anticipating a truly run race so don’t rule out backmarkers. JET DYNASTY looks the likely leader in this one and should be battling it out at the line. MAMBO COME TESIO won last start to break maiden at Vaal. Has plenty of early speed and a likely leader, dangerous. LUTHULI has plenty of early speed and a likely leader, each-way claims. FOLLOW MY PATH has a lot of early speed and three from four wins have been in the dry, has solid claims.

Race 6

Expecting a solid tempo early in the race. GO FLICHITY back from nine week let-up and has a lot of early speed, should go well. ANGEL'S WISH has a lot of early speed and both wins have come in the dry, cannot be ruled out. MAITH AN CAILIN coming off a win to break maiden at Vaal and capable of racing on speed, right in this. WILD FOREVER won last start to break maiden at Vaal and looks the leader, sneaky chance.

Race 7

Can’t imagine one of the top two not winning. DUKE OF SUSSEX let-up for 12 weeks and generally strong first-up winning at Vaal last attempt, consider. FAST LOVE let-up for five weeks and has genuine early speed, should go well. FATEFUL DAY back from 13 week spell. Won at Vaal when last fresh and won three of four first-up, could threaten. CABINET SHUFFLE back from seven week let-up and has very strong form at Vaal, in with a chance.

Value Pick: Duke of Sussex (1)

Race 8

This is a wide open race. TIZONA coming off a win at Vaal when first up and capable of racing on speed, could upset. AFTER HOURS coming off a win at Vaal and expect to lead/box seat having drawn the rails, should be thereabouts. RAIN OR SHINE resumes from a long 57 week spell and looking for a hatrick after winning two in a row at Greyville, a close top pick. SOUTH BOY capable of racing on speed and has two placings from four runs this prep, in the mix. Low confidence race.
